Bien dans sa peau

I came across the french expression bien dans sa peau in a blog about two years ago. The words flow through my thoughts every now and then. It is translated to content / comfortable / at ease with oneself. I strive each day to live up to this expression; to align my actions and thoughts with a confident outlook. I admire those who have true strong confidence. In this world where there can be tremendous criticism, it takes a strong mindset to brave the front of constant images or words suggesting there is a part of you that could use improvement. A characteristic I admire is when someone can differ between an opportunity for growth versus to feel criticized. We might not always look towards growth, but we should always keep it in mind.

Moving to this big new city has given me the greatest growth opportunity I could ask for. It is now my prerogative to take advantage of all lessons learned and vast array of experiences that exist.

Wish me luck!

Mommism

My mother is amazing. Her words are wise and her actions are loving. She sends my sister and I quotes (or mommisms) every now and then that are encouraging, motivating, and truth telling. Today she sent me a quote from Marilyn Monroe: "Sometimes things fall apart so that better things can fall together". It was just what I needed to hear. Moving to a new city where I don't know many people has been a challenge. It is lonely at times. Taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture gives me the self-assurance I need to carry on. If things do fall apart, it takes hard work to put something greater back together. I learn so many lessons each day: from work, walking through the city, or reading the newspaper. I must remember to take time and reflect on those lessons and find the moral within them.

The City

I have completed two weeks at work and boy do I love it! It is a challenging task to enter into a new environment. You've got to play catch up while also work on pushing projects forward. I've enjoyed the balance of managing projects but also planning for the future. I am working in an interesting field which is rapidly changing. The social arena is competitive and overwhelming. There are so many cool ways to reach your consumer: through video, contests, social conversation, games, etc.

My friend Meagan and I attended the Young Member's Party at the Metropolitan Museum thursday night. I felt very glamorous walking up the steps of the Met in my summer chic outfit. It was a great event and I enjoyed meeting new people.

The event was for 21 to 35 year olds. We could go to the Alexander McQueen exhibit as well as party on the rooftop garden where there was a DJ.

All in all, I am loving New York. Everyday I learn something new about the city and become more acquainted with the NY way of life. For example, today I just ordered my groceries online and am having them delivered tomorrow morning, and last night I had drinks with friends on their rooftop!

Well, I'm off to drink a cup of coffee and read the NY style section!

Workin' 9 to 5

I have received an offer to work at NY&Co to be their Social Media / Mobile Coordinator. I have of course accepted! I am so excited to join the e-commerce team and a fast growing company. I dont start until another week but that doesn't mean that the butterflies haven't started already.

My parents are flying in tomorrow and I am meeting them at the airport so we can all fly to Nantucket together. My dad has some business meetings but my mom and I will be having a more "for pleasure" trip.
